Focus exercise

Here’s an example of a short focus exercise.

To gather your thoughts and direct your focus to what’s going on in the moment, you can do this exercise before you start reading your exam questions.

  • Start by telling yourself that you’re exactly where you should be and that you don’t need to change anything.
  • You can close your eyes or look at a point in front of you. Then choose to actively listen for different sounds that you can hear in the room you’re in. Alternate between the two a couple of times and describe them briefly to yourself. If possible, you can also listen for sounds that you can hear outside the hall or, for example, from an adjacent room.
  • Then move on to focus your attention on your exam.
